How many times have you heard someone saying that if they were rich or famous, they would have it their way? Celebrities get to live out this reality, and understandably, it comes with an ego trip. They get paid to entertain the masses, and that earns them the adoration of many who would want to walk in their shoes.
The sense of overconfidence often gets in their heads, and the worst place that they can choose to flex their muscles is on the set that earns them the big bucks. Sadly, a number have gone down this route, and it is the reason why several pairs of celebrities are no longer allowed to work together.
Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey’s diva tendencies precede her, and she has a long-documented history of not being the easiest person to work with. The American Idol producers must have forgotten this piece of information when they put her on a judging panel with Nicki Minaj, who is known for her outspoken nature.
Fans of the reality show can remember the epic 12th season when the two had an exchange of words during auditions held in Charlotte, North Carolina. That’s when Carey was dubbed “her highness” by Minaj, who also hurled profanities at Carey. Mike Darnell, the president of programming at Fox, referred to the feud as a “nightmare experience.”
Sylvester Stallone & Richard Gere
Sylvester Stallone was yet to star in the Rocky series of films that shot him to fame when he appeared alongside Richard Gere in the ’74 film The Lords of Flatbush. Gere was also relatively unknown at the time, before An Officer and a Gentleman gave him his big break.
Stallone recalled Gere strutting around wearing an oversized biker jacket like he was “the baddest knight.” Gere is a messy eater, according to Stallone. Their feud lasted decades later as recounted by Elton John in his biography when he held a shindig where Gere and the late Princess Diana hit it off, which only ticked off Stallone.
Tom Hardy & Charlize Theron
Mad Max: Fury Road cleaned out decently at the box-office, but the making of the film had tons of behind-the-scenes drama. The two leads, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, just couldn’t get along. Theron even addressed the issues they had during interviews.
Theron admitted that they had an exchange at one point, and she blamed it on Hardy’s personality. Zoe Kravitz also dished out more details about the feud between her co-stars, admitting that the two weren’t happy campers on set. It didn’t help that they were mostly filming in the desert, and temperatures quickly flared under the scorching conditions.
Shia LeBeouf & Alec Baldwin
Shia LeBeouf is quite the character, as documented by his theatrics and odd antics over the years. That’s what got him booted off of the Broadway production Orphans where he was set to co-star with Alec Baldwin. They explained his exit from the show as a matter of creative differences.
There are claims that Baldwin had LaBeouf booted from the production, saying that LeBeouf had approached it with a “jailhouse mentality.” LeBeouf, who went full-on into method acting, had accused Baldwin of slowing him down when they were rehearsing. LeBeouf also admitted that he was trying to intimidate Baldwin, but he went a little overboard.
James Franco & Tyrese Gibson
The 2006 film Annapolis brought Tyrese Gibson and James Franco together. However, it wasn’t a smooth sailing experience to the point of Gibson saying that if he could, he would’ve blown up Franco’s house.
Tension only grew between them, and it all had to do with Franco’s knack for diving deep into method acting. Gibson wouldn’t have had an issue with it if it didn’t involve him getting punched in real-sense during the boxing scenes. Gibson even said that he never wanted to work with Franco again, and he was sure that Franco felt the same way.
Patrick Dempsey & Isaiah Washington
Grey’s Anatomy is quite the dramatic medical show, and the behind-the-scenes controversies are equally as intriguing. Two of the show’s former big stars got into a fight that resulted in one of them getting written out of the series. We are talking about Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey.
It all started when Dempsey was late, and he wouldn’t start filming until their fellow co-star Ellen Pompeo arrived. In the midst of it all, they got into a physical altercation, and Washington ended up uttering an inappropriate slur directed at their co-star T.R. Knight.
Will Smith & Janet Hubert
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was one of the hit sitcoms of the ’90s, and it helped Will Smith launch his acting career. The same can’t be said about Janet Hubert, who played the role of Aunt Viv and was already a veteran actress. However, after appearing on the show, she seemed to fade into obscurity.
Hubert wanted more creative control over the show, and she just never got along with the star of the series - Smith. Eventually, Hubert’s part was recast three seasons in, and she has always blamed Smith for “ruining her career.”
Hugh Jackman & Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie and Hugh Jackman have never shared the spotlight on any production begging the question, why don’t they get along? It all has to do with Jackman’s leading lady, his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.
Furness reportedly told Jackman’s agent never to book him for a role that casts him alongside Jolie. The reason is simple - Jolie had a reputation for getting involved with her co-stars, case in point being Brad Pitt, even though that is now all in the past. Furness didn’t want to risk it, but we are not sure if this restriction still stands.
George Clooney & David O. Russell
Back in 1999, George Clooney was still riding on his ER fame when he landed a role in Three Kings. No sooner had he set foot on the set, a feud between him and David O. Russell, the film’s director, started.
Clooney didn’t take too kindly to the way Russell constantly berated crew members, and he just about had it when Russell landed a kick on an extra. Clooney attempted to diffuse work things out with Russell, but it became physical. They managed to put their differences aside to complete the production, but we believe that was the last time they worked together.
Bruce Willis & Kevin Smith
Anyone would be pumped to share a set with Bruce Willis, and that’s how Kevin Smith felt when directing Cop Out in 2010. The excitement soon waned, and Smith would describe his experience working with Willis as “soul-crushing.”
Smith claimed that Willis wouldn’t even help out by sitting for the movie poster. He thought that perhaps Willis had been intimidated by Tracy Morgan, his co-star in the film, ad-lib skills. Smith further described Willis as a paycheck player during an interview with SBS Australia. He added that there was nothing wrong with that, just that Willis didn’t want to do the job.
Charlie Sheen & Selma Blair
When Charlie Sheen was booted from Two and a Half Men, it wasn’t long before he was starring in another sitcom Anger Management. It also wasn’t long before he found himself feuding with a workmate. Selma Blair, who portrayed Dr. Kate Wales, found herself on a warring path with Sheen.
Blair got the boot, and she threatened to take both Lionsgate and Sheen to court for wrongful termination. Sheen explained that Blair’s role was always meant to be a short one, but he hit the nail in further when he fired her via a swear-laden text.
Shannen Doherty & Alyssa Milano
Charmed might not be top of the list of binge-worthy shows from the past that most of us are rewatching, but in the 2000s, it was the series you didn’t want to miss. Alyssa Milano and Shannen Doherty made up two out of the three sisters who were the focus of the supernatural series.
Behind the scenes, Shannen and Alyssa’s relationship was less than sisterly. Shannen explained that her friction with Milano contributed to why she left the show. Shannen felt left out because Alyssa and their co-star Holly Marie Combs alienated her with their cliquey behavior.
Kiefer Sutherland & Freddie Prinze Jr.
There are terrible experiences that have pushed actors to the brink of quitting the industry, and that sums up Freddie Prinze Jr.’s time on 24. Prinze just about had it with the industry after working with Kiefer Sutherland that it’s alleged that’s what made him quit acting.
Sutherland had a Napoleon complex, well that is when it came to Prinze, who was taller than him. Prinze had to film his scenes with Sutherland shoeless so that he wouldn’t tower over him. Prinze told ABC News that Sutherland was quite unprofessional, and he would say it to his face.
Tina Fey & Paris Hilton
Tina Fey built a career out of cracking jokes, and she displayed the full extent of her funny bone when she was on Saturday Night Live. The only part that didn’t tickle her fancy while on the show was working with Paris Hilton.
Fey didn’t hold back the choice words she had when asked by Howard Stern to share her thoughts about Hilton. Fey added that Hilton displayed her stupidity when she demanded to parody Jessica Simpson in a sketch just because she doesn’t like Simpson. It didn’t end there, and Fey said that Hilton’s “cheap weave” left wads of hair all over the floor.
George Takei & William Shatner
Most of the time, it takes a triggering incident for stars to fall out. That wasn’t the case for William Shatner and George Takei while working on Star Trek; the two just didn’t get along off the bat. Their personalities clashed, and it stayed that way throughout the production.
If Takei had a dinner party, all his former Star Trek colleagues would be invited except for one person. Takei felt like Shatner changed a script preventing his character from progressing and growing. Takei revealed more in his ’94 publication To The Stars, claiming that Shatner acted like he didn’t know who Takei was when they were on set.
Kanye West & Taylor Swift
This one might be quite obvious; bad blood exists between Taylor Swift and Kanye West. It all started with the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards moment. West stole Swift’s moment of glory to essentially tell her to her face that she didn’t deserve the award.
Then there was the debacle about the lyrics to West’s hit Famous. They spoke on the phone about it, but Taylor disapproved of some of the words referencing her once the song came out. The more significant issue was that West also recorded the conversation, and his wife Kim Kardashian posted it online when they were feuding about it.
Terrence Howard & Robert Downey Jr.
When you throw in an actor who has a reputation for being a highly ill-tempered man into a fast-paced movie set, then things are bound to go south at some point. That happened behind-the-scenes of the Marvel flick Iron Man.
Terence Howard has even admitted that working with him isn’t always smooth sailing, and Robert Downey Jr. would agree. Howard was a huge name in the mid-2000s, and he was signed up for Iron Man before most of the other big names, including Downey. Howard’s part in the film was recast to Don Cheadle. Howard later claimed that Downey advocated for his firing.
Ian Somerhalder & Nina Dobrev
Fans love to hear about the romance between a leading lady and leading man trickling off the screen. However, it gets messy when the off-screen romance turns sour like in the case of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, who starred in Vampire Diaries.
Somerhalder and Dobrev broke up after three years of dating only for Somerhalder to start dating his current wife Twilight star, Nikki Reed. Things got worse when Somerhalder began directing episodes of the show, but Dobrev would deliberately avoid and ignore him. They’ve cleared the air between them, but don’t expect to see Dobrev and Somerhalder sharing a screen again anytime soon.
Bill Murray & Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu and Bill Murray worked together on the first Charlie’s Angel film released in 2000. Fans were curious about Murray’s absence in the film’s 2003 sequel, and it had a thing to do with his alleged rudeness to Liu when they first filmed together.
Murray reportedly stopped the filming of a scene on one occasion to insult Liu’s acting. It became physical with Liu throwing some punches. Murray refused to return for the sequel if Liu was still on board. That’s how he ended up replaced by the late Bernie Mac.
Kathy Griffin & Anderson Cooper
In 2017, Kathy Griffin posed with an offensive mask of Donald Trump. It offended her co-host Anderson Cooper, who shared a tweet explaining that he was appalled by the photo. Andy Cohen then replaced Griffin for the CNN New Year’s Eve special.
Griffin’s had a different account of things saying that while Cooper told people publicly that they were still friends, it wasn’t true. She was deeply hurt that Cooper hadn’t checked in on her. When he eventually reached out through text messages, Griffin told him that their friendship was over.
Jamie Foxx & LL Cool J
One theme that’s becoming apparent is that perhaps it’s not a good idea to pit two actors against each other for a fight scene. While filming the ’99 film Any Given Sunday, the two had a fight scene that got out of hand.
LL Cool J kept throwing the punches, and law enforcement had to step in to diffuse the situation. LL Cool J said that he did it to make the scene more believable even though it wasn’t in the script. They have since squashed their beef, but we doubt that we’ll be seeing these two exchange blows on our screens anytime soon.
Kristen Stewart & Rupert Sanders
While waiting for the next big blockbuster to hit our screens, it’s always interesting to follow the endless entertainment that goes on during filming. Take Snow White and the Huntsman, for instance, that’s when we found out about the affair between Rupert Sanders and Kristin Stewart.
The most salacious bit was the fact that both Sanders and Stewart were involved in relationships with other people at the time. Stewart had been dating her Twilight co-star, Robert Pattinson, while Rupert had a wife and kids. With the backlash that followed, we doubt these two will ever work together again.
Pink & Christina Aguilera
Back in the day, the beef between singers Christina Aguilera and Pink got tongues wagging. Their profound dislike for each other seemed to headline just about every other celebrity news tabloid. It began when the two teamed up for a project.
It ended with Aguilera describing the music video for Moulin Rouge as one of Pink’s most relevant ones. Pink didn’t take the jab lying down, and it started a duel of words between them that went on for what seems like ages. We doubt that things are less frosty between them now, but according to Pink, they buried the hatchet.
Lauren Conrad & Heidi Montag
Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad fell out years ago when they were both stars of the hit reality show The Hills. The duo reunited recently for the show’s reboot, and it seems like they haven’t quite gotten over their past tiffs.
Montag recently said that sometimes your perception about someone might change in a very permanent way. Their disagreement started when Montag’s current husband, Spencer Pratt, started a malicious rumor about Conrad having a scandalous tape. They never patched things up, and in 2018 Montag said on the #NoFilter podcast that Conrad is the type that holds grudges too long.
Martha Stewart & Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow and Martha Stewart surprisingly have beef going back to 2014. The genesis of it all was when Stewart made light of Goop, which is Paltrow’s controversial wellness and lifestyle brand. Paltrow left her acting days behind to dive head-on into the world of business through the venture.
We can now raise our eyebrows whenever we hear of the business, with a lineup of products and services, including the jade eggs and bee therapy. At the time, the venture was new, but Stewart might have seen into the future. The two proceeded to insult each other creatively through recipe names.
Emma Watson & Channing Tatum
The 2013 comedy film This Is The End brought together an ensemble of actors including Channing Tatum and Emma Watson. The two only had cameos in the spoof movie, and one of them would have had Tatum dancing around with Watson while he was wearing nothing but a thong.
In the middle of filming, Watson walked off the set, saying that she couldn’t do it. It was too extreme for her given the over-the-top nature of the movie. Tatum breakdancing in his special outfit didn’t make it any easier for Watson.
Katy Perry & Taylor Swift
With all the celebrities who are feuding these days, we almost forgot about the epic one between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. Even Swift’s hit Bad Blood is said to have been inspired by her fall out with Perry. It goes back to 2014 when Perry reportedly poached her former dancers from Swift’s Red World Tour.
The dancers had initially worked on Perry’s California Dreams, and she poached them for her Prismatic tour, which was running the same time as Swift’s Red Tour. The two had been cordial before that, even when Perry first dated Swift’s ex, John Mayer, in 2012.
Kim Kardashian & Chloe Grace Moretz
Kim Kardashian doesn’t have any issues picking up a fight with a younger woman. In 2016 Kim got into a spat with actress Chloe Grace Moretz when Moretz was just 19 years old. The bone of contention was yet another lewd photo that Kim posted on social media.
Moretz spoke her mind about it and sent some insults Kim’s way whole at it. It sparked a back and forth of words exchanged between the two on social media. It didn’t last long, but Moretz said that she doesn’t regret it one bit.
Jim Carrey & Tommy Lee Jones
You would think that being hilarious is the gateway to making friends quite easily, but Jim Carrey learned that it doesn’t always work that way. Carrey’s sense of humor just didn’t register well with Tommy Lee Jones, who didn’t hold back from telling him off.
They first met while filming Batman Forever, and Jones told Carrey that he couldn’t sanction Carrey’s buffoonery. Carrey thought that Jones might have felt like a fish out of water because the film wasn’t exactly his style. Carrey portrayed The Riddler while Jones played the part of Two-Face in the ’95 Batman installment.
